HBM Juristen has been approached by NAPNieuws with the request to provide a general legal explanation following coverage of a criminal case in Marrakech in which two Dutch defendants were sentenced to death.
At the request of the editors, HBM Juristen issued a substantively neutral press release on the legal context of the death penalty within Moroccan law. The declaration clarified in general terms the position of the death penalty in Moroccan criminal law and the actual practice of non-execution since 1993.
HBM Juristen is in no way involved in the underlying criminal case, does not act for the parties in this procedure and has no substantive role in the handling thereof. The contribution of the office was strictly limited to a legal interpretation at the request of the media.
